Director Parker kicked off the Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) Support our Wounded Warriors project.  The POAT helped design and purchase a beautiful challenge coin with a national standard wounded warrior logo with all of the armed services insignias on one side and a Law Enforcement Supports Our Wounded Warriors logo on the other.  Officers from MDPD will present these coins to wounded Iraq and Afghan veterans that live in Miami-Dade County.  Anyone wanting to help in this volunteer effort, or other agencies interested in a similar program, please contact Major Greg Terp at gterp@mdpd.com or call 305-468-1315.   Director Parker of the Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) kicked off the program on January 16, 2007, presenting Lance Corporal Patrick Howard (son of MDPD officer Wally Howard) with a refurbished M-1 rifle from the “M1 for Vets” project and the first MDPD challenge coin.  Our mission is to welcome home our wounded veterans from the Iraq & Afghanistan wars and provide support.  Police officers from the veteran’s community will personally visit them, present them with a challenge coin and inquire as to how the law enforcement community can provide assistance.  All disabled veterans from previous wars and conflicts are also welcome to be a part of this program.
How to Apply
The service of all our military veterans is to be commended and respected; this is MDPD’s way of showing our gratitude. Follow-up visits will be made to reinforce law enforcement’s commitment to remembering and helping our honorable wounded warriors.
